3D VR for 1988 Dodgers Series

Project Overview: A university proffesor commissioned me to help a master’s student create a VR documentary experience about the legendary 1988 Dodgers World Series as part of their final project. My role involved designing a realistic 3D model of Dodger Stadium from 1988, complete with locker rooms, tunnels, and a documentary room. I also modeled optimized characters of key figures from the time: Vin Scully (sportscaster), Kirk Gibson, and Dennis Eckersley, capturing their likeness while ensuring smooth VR performance.

Challenges: The main challenges were achieving historical accuracy while maintaining VR optimization. This required extensive research to recreate the stadium’s layout and key elements from 1988 accurately, including the atmosphere and ambiance. Creating the recognizable yet optimized 3D models of Scully, Gibson, and Eckersley demanded detailed artistry without compromising the project’s fluidity in VR.

Solution: I crafted each stadium area with a focus on both visual appeal and performance. Using optimized textures and modeling techniques, I created a true-to-era VR space that allowed users to explore the stadium, access tunnels, and view historic content. The three iconic characters were carefully designed to be recognizable and respectful representations, adding depth to the immersive documentary experience.

Results: The VR documentary received high praise, especially for its attention to historical detail and engaging, interactive features. The student’s final project offered an exceptional educational experience, vividly bringing the 1988 Dodgers series to life for the viewers.
